Causes of Mesothelioma

Causes of Mesothelioma

The cause of mesothelioma is uncertain. However, mesothelioma is always linked to asbestos exposure or asbestos. Asbestos is one of the minerals that are widely used as building materials for construction, such as roofs, due to heat resistance and flame retardant properties. The use of asbestos is officially banned from 1999.

When asbestos is destroyed, either during the mining process or renovation of the building, it will produce fine fibers or dust. The fine fibre of asbestos is easily inhaled, then enters and settes in the organ, especially the lungs. Ingested asbestos fibers can also move through the lymphatic system, settle, and infect cells in the abdominal cavity (peritoneum) of the lining.

Exposure to asbestos can also affect the functioning of the reproductive organs and heart. But it cannot be confirmed by the process because it is very rare.

In general there are several factors that increase the risk of mesothelioma, namely:

  1. Asbestos-prone work environment, such as mineral mines, construction sites, automotive industry, power plants, textile industry and steel mills.
  2. Living in a building or an old neighborhood whose soil contains asbestos.
  3. Have family members working in the vulnerable environment of asbestos exposure. Asbestos can stick to skin and clothing, so it can be taken away to your home or other environment.
  4. It has a history of mesothelioma or genetic disorders that increase cancer risk.
  5. In addition to asbestos, there are several other factors that can increase the risk of mesothelioma, though rare. Among them are exposure to erionite minerals, exposure to thorium dioxide radiation of chemicals, chemicals used in X-rays of up to 1950, and Simian virus infections (SV40).
That is the cause of Mesothelioma. May be useful
